About This Book

This book is an independent review of a number of complaints raised about conditions at nineteen Danish orphanages from 1945-1976. The study includes in-depth interviews and archived studies of conditions at the boys' school and home Godhavn, as well as point studies of eighteen other orphanages. The study was funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs and implemented by the Social Welfare at Svendborg Museum under the direction of curator Maria Rytter. It is the first Danish study on violence against children in orphanages.
