"This work is not intended to be a book of history although some history is contained herein. It could be described more correctly as folklore. Events that happened were perceived by individuals and passed on to others with each teller giving his personal touch. The lore collected here reflects particular ways of life.

"As a young girl, I realized that most of the people living on Mann Creek were, in some way, related to me. From them I began collecting family histories of genealogical value. To this collection I have added the folklore from older generations."
