"Ediția de față cuprinde două lucrări inedite: 'Das Fragment und die Skizze in der Kunst' (Fragmentul și schița în artă) și 'Fragmentul în artă. Contribuții la studiul structurii operei de artă', reprezentând cele două versiuni ale disertației doctorale elaborate de Edgar Papu (1908-1993), prima în anii tinereții, cea de-a doua în perioada maturității. Lucrările respective constituie baza teoretică a proiectului exegetic al 'formelor deschise' in artă, îmbrățișat și întregit de autor în următorii 50 de ani de activitate și încheiat odată cu apariția studiului 'Gânduri despre manierism', ceea a permis subsermnatului editor să le reunoască sub titlul generic 'Estetica I'... Versiunea germană 'Das Fragment und die Skizze in der Kunst', la care se alătură transpunerea ei românească aparținând editorului, datează din anii 1936-1938, fiind pregătită pentru susținere la Universitatea din Viena, frecventată de doctorand în intervalul 1936-1938"--Page 13
