History of Journalism in the United States

This is a fascinating book discussing the history of journalism in the United States including a discussion of the development of the trade in England. The book follows trends in politics as they relate to journalism, and the co- development of democracy and the free press. Regional differences are covered as well. It is quite readable with many interesting stories related to the topic which would probably be side-stepped in current times but make for enjoyable reading. The book reads as if it grew out of a popular academic lecture series.
