A group of people happen together one December night in the comfortable atmosphere of Pop McCarthy's tourist camp on the coast of Northern Florida. It seemed a normal enough group composed of ordinary normal people.

Pop was 76 years old but still had an eye for a pretty wench; there was the Kid, who had had a bad time in the war; there was an over-worked businessman on vacation and a worldly wise old Doctor.

But there was also Sally, left stranded by the man who had destroyed her innocence and all her illusions - bewildered and frightened. But to the Hitchhiker she was a desirable prey and seemed destined to be an easy conquest. For this man was the type that thought himself altogether irresistable and to whose evil, distorted mind it seemed only right that he should take by force that which was not offered by choice.
