Chalvet, février 1974

Well-documented study and collection of primary documents on the confrontation at Chalvet, in the north of Martinique, on 14 February 1974. One hundred laborers on strike are sprayed with tear gas, surrounded by trucks of mobile guards, and grounded by a helicopter shooting down on the laborers. The strike is suspected of being led by leftists, who, usurping the place of the unions, who were believed to be threatening the economic and political stability of the island by manipulating the peasantry.
