About This Book

José Resende is one of the most important Brazilian artists from the second half of the 20th century. Helped found the Grupo Rex, the magazine Malasartes, and jornals A Parte do Fogo and Escola Brasil. He also participated in the Biennale of Paris in 1980, in the Biennale of Venice in 1988, in the Biennale of Sydney in 1998 and several editions of the Bienal de São Paulo. The artist is now, in 2015, seventy years of age and has a 50-year trajectory of professional career. His last exhibition was twenty-five years ago on the MAC in Rio de Janeiro in 1990. Since then, he had no more an exhibition of its own in another Brazilian Museum. "Author of a work in progress for five decades, José Resende (1945) refers to this exhibition at the Pinacoteca de Sao Paulo, composed only of recent and never before seen sculptures in the city, as a "retrospective" of his career" (Our translation) --Page 90.
