Mongkut the King of Siam

King of Siam from 1851 to 1869, Mongkut was deeply religious but had an earthy flare for the practical and a mind keenly interested in the scientific advances of the world outside Siam. Moffat considers Anna Leonowens to have presented Mongkut as a caricature of himself in her book, The English governess at the Siamese court. Moffat seeks to show him as a far more engaging figure, the brother of the rules of his day.
