About This Book

In the 1980s, a professor of social work from Berlin, Germany, visited Nyksund, a tiny fishing village on northern Vesterålen archipelago in Norway, which had become a ghost town some time after WWII. With support from the Berlin Technical and Free Universities, he launched the Nyksund project which combined social pedagogy with architectural restoration as young Berliners came to Nyksund to restore the derelict buildings and revitalize the village. The author participated in the project.
