This book is what is sometimes colled a "uchrony": like a utopia, but placed in another (earlier or later) time rather than a distant place. In a dream the writer ends up in a uchronic society in the year 3000. The consumption-based society has perished, and everybody lives autarkic. They do not try to govern each other or nature, but work on increasing their knowledge and wisdom.
