When Swift first encountered The Establishment, working with the British Government in exile seemed like a fine idea. But their first joint mission has stranded the Authority's most powerful fighter behind an exotic distortion field in the Suffolk Fenlands. Midnighter has been transformed into a mild-mannered vicar, in what seems to be the last pleasant village in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, other teammates have their own battles to fight: Jack Hawksmoor may have regained his sense of purpose after his encounter with Jackson King of StormWatch, but he's still the ruined king of a ruined city. Apollo must still live above the cloud cover, and cleansing the Carrier of the Warhol virus has led to a strange infection of his own.
