The violence in today's schools calls for a new way of dealing with students. A Security Counselor, a counselor who's been trained in a police academy, thatś Belle Evans. She's been newly hired for the school system in Granite, Arizona, a mile high town in the middle of the state. With her son and daughter now on their own, Belle has come out to Arizona after a separation from her husband to live her own life. However, as counselor she gets caught up in the lives of others. When one of the students, a Mexican boy, is killed by the father of his girlfriend, Belle gets involved. But what starts out looking like a hate crime ends up involving a larger cast of characters. Her trouble is, she doesn't always believe in doing things the orthodox way, which sometimes brings her into conflict with local school and law officials. Not the least of whom is Sheriff Eli McFarland - Mac to his friends. The murders pile up and in her efforts to keep the boy's girlfriend from being a victim, Belle becomes a target herself.
