About This Book

An exhaustive 100 page record of the effort in North America to recruit volunteers for the Polish Armed Forces in World War II; almost more like a scrap book than a monograph; full of articles, press clippings, reproductions of photographs, biographies of officers, the "official" Chronicle of the Mission; but also stories, poems, cartoons by a famous Polish cartoonist Walentynowicz; as well as attempts by commentators to reflect on whether the Mission was a success or failure; and, finally, attachments, including copies of historic documents, letters, and a retrospective look at the history of similar efforts during World War I. Short summary in English (pp.60-67). Alas, the work suffers from poor techical reproduction of many items and sadly reflects the "shoe-string" operations conditions under which the publication was ultimately achieved. Our admiration and respect for those brave people must render this work a true relic of the times in which it was conceived, brought about, and rescued from the ravages of time.
