About This Book
This documentary-novel is dedicated to the Bessarabian noble family of Dicescu, having as its central character Pavel Dicescu (1837-1909), landowner from Gălești, marshal of the nobility from Bessarabia, deputy in the State Duma of Russia, member of the Imperial Council, defender of the rights of national minorities in the Russian Empire, most of all of the Bessarabian Romanians. The story begins with Pavel Dicescu's ancestors, starting with Grigore Dicescu at the royal court of Vasile Lupu, and is concluded with narratives concerning six of his descendants, including his daughter Anastasia Dicescu, the organizer and the first director of the "Unirea" Conservatory in Chisinau, a talented soprano who, in 1919-1925, played leading roles on the stage of the Cluj Opera. During this period she fell in love with the great poet Lucian Blaga.
