Travels in America performed in 1806

[Ashe]… traveled down various rivers, including the Ohio and the Mississippi, and made adverse comment about most of what he saw. The Falls of the Ohio were to him an awful scene; the population of Kentucky, he thought, would soon decline… [this attitude] aroused so much bitterness that Americans began to resent all British travelers and to look with suspicion upon any Englishman’s travel narrative that was not wholeheartedly favorable.
