The colour of fear

There should have been no difficulty in frightening a young lady into changing her evidence about a hit-and-run accident. But David Mallin finds that too many people are interested in what may not have been an accident after all, and the young lady has unexpected support in reserve. Very soon the only one frightened is Dave himself.

In such a delicate situation, the obvious action is to remove your valuables to a safe place. Dave's most precious possession is his wife, but Elsa has one or two things to say about being hidden away. Her reaction provokes a crisis of bluff and counter-bluff that tests Dave's nerve to its limit, until he eventually finds himself within one conscious thought of failure.
