Consists of occupations shown in images and verse found in the 1694 emblem book, Het menselijk bedrijf, by Jan and Casper Luyken and choice modern versions. These images and verses are juxtaposed to show contrasts between occupations found in the earlier publication and their modern equivalents. Included in the text is information about emblem books, the background, artistry and literary input of both the contributors to the 1694 publication and an overview about the occupations shown.
