Before finding fame as a Chinese-American model and actress, Lauren Tsai held a deep fascination for art. As an exchange student in Japan, she became fascinated with the country and its culture. Her pop-surreal illustrations clearly reflect this cross-cultural pollination. They also tend toward the darker side, imparting a love of influences like Tim Burton, Studio Ghibli, and Laika Studios. This is her first sketchbook to be published, a very personal and intimate collection of illustrations and unfinished drawings. It is the product of a creative mind, drifting from place to place but still able to find moments of reflection and quiet. As she says, "a messy story of pictures and words".
