About This Book

Reproduces the journals of the Physiocrats, a small circle of 18th-century French thinkers whose theories would influence the growth of ecconomic science. The first journal was inaugurated in 1765 under the title Epheḿer̀ides du citoyen, and later published as Nouvelles epheḿer̀ides economiques. The most important of these journals, it was edited successively by l'abbe ́Baudeau and du Pont de Nemours until suppressed in 1772, then revived twice by Baudeau until 1788. From 1765 through late 1766, the monthly organ of the Physiocrats was the Journal de l'agriculture des arts et des finances. Its well-known contributors discussed natural law, freedom of trade, the colonial system, the distribution of wealth, and agriculture, and was published under founder Pierre Samuel du Pont until his ouster in 1766.
