About This Book
The exhibition contains a selection of about 100 drawings ranging from one executed in 1905 while he was still a teenager to another from 1948, the year of his death. Most of the works will be on public view for the first time in this exhibition. The sheets illustrate turning points in the artist's career as well as his stylistic development: Schwitters' path to abstraction around 1917, his Dadaist experiments, his travel sketches and portrait studies during his exile in Norway and England from 1937 onwards, as well as key problems that preoccupied the artist in both his abstract compositions and his landscapes.
