About This Book

It is a collection of recorded stories of 18 Italian women living in 1978 in Belgium. The oldest teller is 65; the younger is 24. The first ones came from all over Italy, following their families or their husbands already emigrated. On the contrary, the youngest ones were born in Belgium: they are the second generation, more learned and less grateful than their parents to the receiving country. The working conditions, the projects, the problems and the humour of women strong and sage are told in their various dialects painting what their lives are like in the heart of Europe, during the revival of feminism.
