St. Paul

Martindale begins with the following---It cannot be said, I fear, that the letters of St Paul are much read in England, even by Catholics, save among professional theologians. Cyril C. Martindale tells the tale of Paul holding the coats of those that stoned Stephen. He gives a beautiful account of Tarsus and follows Paul through his conversion and his great missions: first Barnabas and then Silas. He interweaves the Epistles with his narrative and gives an idea of their place in progression of Paul's journey toward heaven. The last chapter is a moving account of the martyrdom of Paul outside the walls of Rome.
