About This Book

Branch's Field Artillery (formerly Lee's Life Guard) was organized in 1861 in Petersburg. It was also called Captain James R. Branch's Company of the Virginia Light Artillery. It was assigned first as Company K of the 16th Regiment, Virginia Infantry, but then became a company in the 12th Regiment, Virginia Infantry. It finally served as Captain Richard D. Pegram's Company of the Virginia Light Artillery.

Harrington Light Artillery was raised in Richmond County, North Carolina, but became Company D of the 12th Battalion, Virginia Light Artillery. The company later became Company A of the 13th Battalion, North Carolina Light Artillery. Records before Nov. 1863 will be with the 12th Battalion, Virginia Light Artillery.

The Staunton Hill Artillery was organized in 1861 in Charlotte County, Virginia. It was also known as Captain Charles Bruce's Company, Virginia Light Artillery. In 1862 it became Captain Andrew Bailey Paris' Company, Virginia Artillery.
