Another way of putting this is I am not speaking of discovery. Rather, it is revelation. Something existed in the situations of some people in a certain place long before I found it and declared it important to me. I am in the vulnerable position of colonialist. The northern world is finally hearing indigenous native peoples describe the devastating results to them of being “discovered” by European colonizers. Whatever there is in my discernment, therefore, must be honored as a fragile gift. I feel obligated to share it, but I know that even my way of putting what I believe I received from people in Central America is not their whole story.
