<div>195 page hardback book with brown covers that are completely loose from the binding. The front cover has the words "Charter And General Ordinances of the City of Warrenton" in a black-line rectangle in the upper left corner. Underneath this is a cursive signature of G. Clifford Barlow. Just below the middle, there is a rectangle created from old adhesive. There are also several dark liquid stains on the front cover. The back cover is blank and clean. Size: 6" x 9"<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>G. (George) Clifford Barlow was born Feb. 9, 1883 and died May 22, 1944. He immigrated to the US from England in 1904. He married Maude Deeds on Nov. 21, 1909. G. Clifford Barlow was a well-known citizen of Warrenton, and Clatsop County. In 1910 - 1921 he owned a grocery and mertchandise store. He was also secretary of the Warrenton Development League in 1910. He was an active boat captain in the Astoria Regattas of 1913 and 1914. He was postmaster in Warrenton from 1915 - 1918. In 1916 he was president of the Skipanon Dredging Commission. By 1920 he was also the Warrenton Commercial Club president. 1924 finds him on the Port of Astoria Commission, and secretary of the Pacific Grange #413. He becomes the Astoria Chamber of Commerce Executive Secretary in 1931, and was a variety of City of Warrenton positions from 1931 - 1942: Auditor, Police Judge, City Manager, and Treasurer. At one point he was also president of the Oregon Retail Merchant's Association.
He was an active Mason. After a 3 year illness he died in May 1944. August Hildebrand, historian and Kiwanian for many years, called Mr. Barlow the "Warrenton Sage" and also commended him for his activity in the reforestation efforts of the 1930s and 40s. <br /></div>
