About This Book

Strongly inclined to create representational work focused on the human figure, yet without portraying actual homo sapiens, Piette's oeuvre builds on concepts developed by the likes of Hans Bellmer, Man Ray, Cindy Sherman, or Allen Jones, Fernand Léger, or Avant-Garde movements like Dada, Surrealism, Futurism, and Cubism, all of which provided representations of machine or object-like humans and/or deconstructed or dehumanized bodies. Determined to build his work on practices firmly rooted in art history, this is just the surface layer of Piette's modus operandi, a tip of the conceptual iceberg that is standing in a way of the tradition and its established hierarchies. Working exclusively with digitally rendered imagery as his reference and offering the 3D modeling software files as original sketches using NFTs, the artist is elevating the praxis of incorporating technology into artistic practice to a previously unseen extent." Exhibition: Almine Rech Gallery, London, UK (02. - 25.09.2021)
