About This Book

The series "Documents for the Comprehension of Art History in Chile" brings together visual and written sources from the 19th century to 1930 by noted specialists. This issue comprises 5 documents associated with the foundation of the Painting Academy of Santiago. They are the contract between the first independent government of Chile and the first director of the academy, Neapolitan painter Alejandro Ciccarelli (1808-1879), the first legislation created by Salvador Sanfuentes (1817-1860), and documents by poet Jacinto Chacón (1820-1893), Francisco Fernández Rodella (1831-1884), and Manuel Bulnes Prieto (1799-1869).
