About This Book

The Sheikh's vision was transcendental, for he composed this present work when he was a teenager at the request of his mother who asked him to write a prayer for her. (Mariama Jariatullah Bousso) Towards the beginning of the poem the blessings of Allah upon all of the prophets are invoked. Thus the supplication for their blessing is a blessing also upon the supplicant. Protection from hazards - that the Sheikh himself later had to endure by the hands of the French colonialists who sought to torture him- was also invoked. Further into the qassida, supplication for his mother is directly given, and as it is the primary human bond from the womb to the world, it is a blessing upon the disciple who supplicates thusly. The Ummah, community of Muslims, originates in the Um (womb); may we all give honor to our mothers and all future mothers, that their wombs be fertile with blessings to bring forth blessed people like Sheikh Ahmadu Bamba, R.A.
