About This Book
When John Florio died, the third edition of his dictionary «A World of Words» was ready for the press. But John Florio was, by then, very poor, and he could not complete the task. In his will, he left his books and manuscripts to the Earl of Pembroke, who refused the legacy. One supposes his library was then dispersed. His manuscripts were bought by, or given to, then young Giovanni Torriano, who had come from Italy with his family in the early years of the century. He continued to work on the Florio Vocabolario; he added to Florio's Italian-English dictionary the English-Italian part.
