Studies origins, development and repercussions of international conflicts surrounding strategically important bay with coastline shared by El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. Reconstructs involvement of numerous foreign and local powers in four different phases: between conquest and British-American treaty of 1850, from time of US railway project in Honduras to Nicaraguan occupation in early 20th century, from US protectorate in Nicaragua to El Salvador-Honduras peace treaty of 1980, and since then (1980 to 2018).
