About This Book

One of the best known Israeli historians, Benzion Netanyahu, published in 1995 The Origins of the Inquisition, in which more than twelve hundred pages, introduced, after more than twenty years of studying Jewish sources and Spanish converts the period, a theory that based the establishment of the Inquisition as a mere expression of pure racist anti-Semitism. Miguel Angel Garcia Olmo, In "The reasons for the Spanish Inquisition" he arguesthat Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon were not anti-Semitic. They create the Holy Office for mere political calculation, as a way to ally with the party for anti-converso solve a social crisis early in his reign between Old Christians and New Christians, and to stop the economic success and social influence the latter had achieved . García Olmo goes further and thinks that the Inquisition started as a solution to a real public policy problem.
