Studies two important documents relating to activities of Franciscan missionaries in colonial Yucatan and their role in colonization and social life in peninsula. First is 1714 summary report by Spanish official on dispute between secular clergy and Franciscan order in Yucatan. Second is 1643 dispatch by Franciscans arguing against their bishop's order to stop forcing indigenous people to "pay" with services or produce for alms they received. Edition limited to 250 copies.
