Some use an acute scenting powers to follow the trail. Others have the gift of stamina to follow the trail. Beyond this, generalizations about hounds are hard to come by because the type encompasses a diverse group. There are Pharaoh hounds, Norwegian elkhounds, Afghans and Beagles among others. Some hounds share the ability to produce a unique sound known as baying.
