About This Book

Cybernetics consists of four volumes hole-punched and metal-ring bound, each with a brown-ish grey cardstock cover with a variety of burgundy, grey, black, blue and green cyberpunk-inspired illustrations and collage works. In Melanie's section, she collages definitions of cybernetics by members of the Cybernetics Library, located in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. Shulamith Firestone’s Cybernetic Feminism written by Sarah Hamerman, reviews Firestone’s cyberfeminist manifesto The Dialectics of Sex and the literary discourse surrounding the binarist limitations of her interpretation of artificual reproduction and the alignment of technology with emancipatory feminist politics. The last two volumes, Body is a Boundary Concept assembled by Charles Eppley and The realm of life groans with the contradictions of sexual reproduction by David Hecht contain cut and paste selections of quotes around the conceptual technologies of the human body, gender expectations and sexuality by Anne Balsamo and others. Each volume contains a bibliography of quoted and recommended readings available in the Cybernetics Library. -- Claudia
