The book by researcher, collector and curator of photographic collections Abel Alexander (Buenos Aires, 1943) is an anthology of texts that covers the experience of the first photography studies in Buenos Aires, such as Alejando S. Witcomb, Antonio Pozzo, Benitez y Pagés, Bernardo González, Christian Junior, G.W. Chandler, Chute & Brooks, Herbert Kirchhoff, Hippolito Freitas, Lucien Cantón, Samuel Rimathé, to name a few; the expansion of this technique in different towns of the province towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and its relationship with different social groups of the time, such as the Afro Argentine community, the gauchos and the Italian immigrant community. In addition, the book has an appendix that includes research on stereoscopic photographs and erotic daguerreotypes.
