Geshe-la The Story of a Tibetan Lama

Geshe Khenrab Gajam was born in 1928 in Kham, Eastern Tibet. He began his studies at a young age, at a monastery in his home town and then went to Ganden University near Lhasa. In 1959, because of the Chinese occupation, Geshe-la and many other Tibetans followed the example of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and fled to India. In 1970, the Indian government gave a large area of land in Mundgod, Southern India, and the monks built the first Ganden Monastic University in exile. In 1972, the Canadian Government invited Geshe Khenrab to minister to the Tibetan community living in Longueuil, Quebec near Montreal. Geshe-la founded a Buddhist temple in Montreal and he taught many westerners. Geshe Khenrab Gajam is one of the founding fathers of Tibetan Buddhism in Canada.
