Chuck Samuels

"Monograph dedicated to Chuck Samuels. Becoming Photography covers thirty years of career and was produced in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name presented at EXPRESSION and at PLEIN SUD in the winter of 2021. This publication features two essays that examine the work of Chuck Samuels: "The Hidden Face of Photography" by Mona Hakim, and "Histories and Counterhistories" ("Historias y contrahistorias") by Joan Fontcuberta. Hakim, Samuels's close collaborator, looks at each of the series that he has produced throughout his career. True to form, Fontcuberta "tracks" the presence of truth and falsehood in Samuels's work. Together, they not only cast an exhaustive gaze at his work but explore the issues inherent to photography as a medium."--
