About This Book
"The lousy money, that it should always be so bad about it when it is so important and necessary!" So wrote Märta Rudbeck in a letter to her friend Gerda Fougstedt in 1915. Emma Toll, Tyra Kleen and Märta Rudbeck chose the artistic life despite the lack of financial security, even though patriarchal structures directly or indirectly limited them, even though it meant a life without a family of their own. They dedicated their lives to art and the struggle for better conditions for women artists. They educated themselves, they participated in the cultural life of the continent and they revitalized the Swedish art scene. Emma Toll, Tyra Kleen and Märta Rudbeck were rebels - and mademoiselles. This is a story about some of the women who went through the cracks. Exhibition: Norrköping Art Museum, Sweden (23.10.2021 - 24.04.2022)
