Subject: Political cartoon showing Benjamin Franklin Wade and Ulysses S. Grant leading the Reconstruction effort. Wade and Grant ride the horse of the Republican party trampling Jefferson Davis as a snake, and William Fessenden as a lobster with the wheels of reconstruction. At right, Howell Cobb and his wife ride a donkey tied to the car of freedom. Cobb holds a jug of bourbon in his hands and he is barefoot. He states "Traitors must take back seats--back where I am; they must, whether they like it or not." The devil is seen behind the Cobbs and says "Bully boy."
