About This Book

Walker's Texas Division, the only division in the Confederate Army composed of troops from a single state, was organized in 1862 by Henry E. McCulloch and commanded from January 1863 to June 1864 by Major General John G. Walker. The unit was the backbone of the forces of the Trans-Mississippi West, serving primarily in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, and provided the major opposition to General N.P. Banks' invasion of Louisiana.
