About This Book
This book completes a study of employees´ situation of influence and co-determination in industrial enterprises. The project had three aims:
1. To contribute to the empirical knowledge of the Swedish unions in industrial enterprises.
2. To contribute to an expanding knowledge of how one plans, carries through and analyses the reliability of interactive case studies.
3. To contribute with ideas and structures to the organisation theory in the field of business administration.
Previously two reports are published.
1. Influence of Trade-Unions. A Study of Swedish Food Workers´ Union Department no. 2. A well-managed department, of a rather typical Swedish Union organisation. It is described out of several different dimensions.
2. Section Bjärnum. A Study of a Union entirety’s everyday work.
A description of a part of the Union department and how it develops because of seriously committed members. There is a detailed description where the development and negotiations of the organisation are concerned as well as how a union branch matched up to the employer in a conflict which led to a law-suit in the Industrial Court, AD.
In this book two kinds of philosophy of Union Leadership are compared as how Unions acquire power. Management similarities are investigated as the search to fulfil long term goals. They are Mobilization, Autonomy and Vitality.
I have used intensive interactive case studies as a research method. I have observed different pictures of reality. It has several times been necessary to change concepts and structures.
So, that planning of interactive case studies can be carried out retaining possibilities of flexibility, the principles of the investigation should be determined. Most essential are the principles for collection of data, structuring and evaluation as well as analyses of the reliability. The most important of these is the intensity of the interaction. A system for the reliability analyses is built upon a consciousness and a control the exterior and interior factors which influence investigations.
