About This Book

Influenced by the great French and Italian cinema of the 1940s, as well as by the American Farm Security Administration photographers, Donzelli created an impressive body of work that both tops and defies the documentary category.0His photographs full of light and magic portray the streets and interiors of Milan and Naples as well as the great rural landscapes in Sardinia, Calabria and Sicily, in a celebration of Italy and the Italian people during the post-war reconstruction.0But Donzelli?s greatest passion was the Po Delta, with its arid landscapes? so often described by the directors of Italian neorealism? now at the center of the exhibition organized with the support of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo. Donzelli himself called this area of northern Italy the?land of no shadows?, and during the 1950-60s dedicated his most famous series to its beauty? producing the most impressive and striking images of his career.00Exhibition: Palazzo Roverell, Rovigo, Italy (25.03. - 02.07.2017).
