About This Book
"Handsome small publication celebrates the 1993 opening of the exhibition of Spanish colonial art from the Banco Popular collection in the Casa del Marqués de San Jorge in Bogota. An excellent example of 17th-century domestic architecture since its restoration in 1972, the house served as an archeological museum and headquarters of the Fondo de Promoción de la Cultura. The new installation of colonial art in the Salón San Jorge helps restore the original cultural background of the residence. A short biography of the most notable owner, don Jorge Lozano de Peralta, Marqués de San Jorge (d. 1793) is followed by a fully illustrated, descriptive catalog of the art collection, including paintings, sculptures, silverwork, liturgical objects, and furniture. Fine quality color and b/w photographs"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
