Moose, Bruce and the Goose (First Edition)

A remarkable story about a remarkable trio: Moose, a champion greyhound pup, DeGaulle, an opinionated Canadian goose, and Bruce Johnson, who yearns to make the high school track team as a "miler." Moose, abandoned on a Montana prairie, is joined by a large Canadian goose who has been shot in the wing and disabled by a hunter. The two are at first hostile to each other. Hostility soon gives way to mutual dependency, then to friendship. When they have recovered sufficiently, they hit the road, scavenging for food and shelter, two memorable hobos together. In town at the dog track, surprising the spectators, they enter a race that is under way, and hilariously defeat all comers, including the mechanical rabbit. Here they meet Bruce Johnson. And here the pair becomes a trio. From Moose, Bruce learns the art of running. How the trio deals with Bruce's family, irate neighbors, five thousand geese, and the state track championship makes for a marvelous entertainment.
