Brief history of contacts and interchange between inhabitants of urban neighborhood in Chiapas' state capital and rural Tzotzil, as manifest in annual pilgrimage from former to latter. Demonstrates ways in which participation in ritual is associated with continuing health and prosperity, and exemplifies forms of understanding and expressing relationships between "indigenous" and "city" folk.
