Cross-Border Cooperation in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland

Tannam examines the cross-border relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. An overview of the history of the cross-border relationship is provided, highlighting the tensions which have hindered that relationship from blossoming. The impact of European Union membership and Anglo-Irish policy is examined and the responses of politicians, business communities, local actors and civil servants to changes in the 1980s and 1990s are highlighted.

Thus, change and continuity are shown to characterise the cross-border relationship in the 1990s.
