About This Book

The atmospheric album of the last days of the steam locomotive on British Railways in the years and weeks leading up to August 1968.
Brilliantly shot in Black and White it shows the steam engine in it's natural environment and as an integral part of the landscape.
The title came from the poem by Robert Louis Stephenson - 'From a Railway Carriage'.
The final line was:-
Each a glimpse and gone forever.
Colin Gifford's later work in the same style is titled 'And Gone Forever'
