Lady in lilac

Actress Helen Varney is out of work, out of cash, and just about out of luck. She needs a break, something to grab the attention of a big-shot director and give her the chance to show her stuff. So when a frghtened girl in her cheap boarding house asks Helen to take her place on a date with a big-shot director, things are looking up.

Until the "date" turns fatal, the other girl disappears, and Helen finds herself running from the police with a suitcase full of marked bills and a murderer waiting in the wings.
