New critical assessment of five writers and their respective novels, along with manifesto of their movement, all published in 1996. Examines initial, highly negative, reception of works; reflects on concept of "generation;" and scrutinizes past and subsequent works of these writers. Analyzes five novels: El Temperamento melancólico (Jorge Volpi), Memoria de los días (Pedro Angel Palou), Si volviesen sus majestades (Ignacio Padilla), La Conspiración idiota (Ricardo Chávez Castañeda) and Las Rémoras (Eloy Urroz).
