Biography

I am the author of Prophecies & Transformations, and Imaginations & Self-Discoveries, and editor of Octavio Paz: Homage to the Poet, and The Other Shore: 100 Poems by Rafael Alberti.

I was editor of KOSMOS: A Journal of Poetry, from 1975 to 1983, and series editor of the KOSMOS Modern Poets in Translation Series from 1975 to 1987.

My essay on Octavio Paz entitled “The Poetry and Thought of Octavio Paz: An Introduction” appeared in "Octavio Paz: Homage to the Poet," and was reprinted in "Octavio Paz" edited by Harold Bloom.

My poems have appeared in Amerus, Ararat, Blue Unicorn, Ginosko Literary Journal, Green House, Grey Sparrow Journal, KOSMOS: A Journal of Poetry, Leveler Poetry, Marin Poetry Center Anthology, Snow Jewel, Verse Wisconsin, and other journals.

I have received received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council (Artists in Communities Program), and the San Francisco Foundation, and was poet-in-residence at the San Francisco Public Library for the periods November 1979 – April 1980, October 1980 –July 1981, and October 1982 – September 1983.

I was educated at New York University and received Master’s degrees in both Philosophy and Mathematics.
